 THEMATIC Course  II 

Breathing / Gymnasia and related anatomy / Repetition and the Creative Process

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THEMATIC COURSES

• THEMATIC COURSES combine theory, techniques and group and individual practice. Each subject under study begins with a corresponding theoretical, technical and anatomical explanation providing TRAINING and practical tools useful to work on the various aspects related to phonation.

• The aims and goals of the thematic courses are the same as those contained in the COURSES section.

• Each Thematic Course will last for 15 hours spread across two days.

• In order to facilitate both individual and group work, the number of students will be limited to: Thematic Course I a maximum of 10 participants / Thematic Course II and III a maximum of 8 participants.

• These courses include workout routines and sets of exercises for mastering vocal tract mechanisms and specific muscular development, which the teacher will correct and adjust on an individual basis so that participating students may continue “training” and progressing by themselves after the courses have finished.

• Participants will sing together in group exercises and improvisations following a set of precise guidelines provided by the teacher.

• Individual attention will be given to the participants who wish for it. Each of them will perform a song (either traditional or original), a text or an individual vocal rendition in order to raise questions about their personal interests in relation to their vocal practice or to a work already in process.

CONTENTS OF THEMATIC COURSE I

• This course will study the following subjects in depth: Breathing, the driving force behind phonation / Breathing and vocal cord health / The anatomy of the respiratory tract / Air management: Identification of the respiratory mechanism / Air support/ Exercises to identify and develop breathing musculature and capacity / Breathing and relaxation / Unlearning bad breathing habits / Training pallesthetic breathing memory for correct phonation / Identification of the pelvic floor / Breathing, confidence and stage presence / Concentration and the creation process / From repetition, play and improvisation to ideas and building one’s own work, language and style / Breathing and the “extended voice”/ Cataloguing one’s own vocal resources / Vocal warm-up exercises and group improvisations / 

• Each performance will be re-worked by the teacher who will point out the key factors to which each student should pay particular attention (posture, vocal gesture, breathing, articulation, tuning, resonators, etc.). In this manner, students will be able to realize which areas of technique they need to pursue further, how they may optimize their vocal resources and their conceptual and performative approaches in their individual presentations.

• The effect that derives from the attention that the other students pay to the solo presentations while observing and taking notes of the orientation, guidelines and tips that the teacher gives to the “soloist”, is very significant.

AIMED AT

• The THEMATIC COURSES are aimed at people interested in a mindful and unprejudiced vocal practice, whether for the mere pleasure of singing, exploring and experimenting with the voice in order to enrich the creative or vital process, as well as for an interest focused on professional, theatrical, performative, poetic or pedagogical musical practice.

• The workshop is open to all levels of training or vocal experience.
